After previously building an oak frame garage with us, Phil and Lucy chose to return to us when they were looking to complement their Grade II listed period home with an oak framed garden room extension.
Words from our clients Phil and Lucy
1. What prompted your decision to build?
We had built an oak framed carport with Oakwrights in 2012 at our previous house, and we felt that we knew the company and liked the design potential of using green oak to complement our Grade II Listed home.
2. Why did you choose to build your garden room with Oakwrights?
We liked the sympathetic design of the oak framed extension that George Allen (one of our Regional Design Consultants) designed and liked the insulative properties of the glazing units that offered a real indoor-outdoor feel to the extension.
Key design features
“The extension was built against an existing stone wall, which created a natural hub for the TV to be installed and for the furniture to surround,” says George. “Phil and Lucy wanted a room filled with natural light that would filter into their kitchen, and we achieved this by including a face glazed gable end and large glazed French doors which open out onto their garden.”
The vaulted ceiling has oak roof trusses at either end of the room and a feature chandelier hangs down from the centre.
The full-width cut-through between the existing kitchen and Phil and Lucy’s garden room ensures flow between new and old, and the same flooring is used throughout.
