Within a year of moving into their charming home in Leicestershire, Nicola and Simon decided a significant addition was in order. Their passion for vintage cars meant they now needed a dedicated space for their five beloved models. They also saw the project as an opportunity to gain additional income by incorporating a suitable space for Airbnb guests, and so Pear Tree Loft was created. And, while it wasn’t their top priority, a building that added value to their home would be the icing on the cake.
A match made in… a car magazine
Naturally, Nicola and Simon wanted their build to blend in with the rustic charm of their home. Once they’d settled on an oak frame, their thoughts turned to finding a builder capable of fulfilling their wishes. Perhaps surprisingly, the one they chose didn’t come by way of a recommendation or from any type of property publication.
Nicola and Simon happened upon one of our adverts in a car magazine. Given the job they had in mind, Oakwrights seemed like the perfect match. A little research assured them we had all the expertise and experience needed to design and build exactly what they wanted: an addition that would do justice to their home as well as their car collection.
Stylish space for all
Between April and November 2022, Nicola and Simon saw all their ideas become reality in the shape of a delightful oak frame room above garage. As well as five new homes for their vintage collection, those staying above the garage bays are also cosseted in style. The room above includes a swish kitchen, airy living space as well as a comfortable bedroom and en-suite bathroom.
“The problem is people don’t want to leave!”
“You know you’ve done something right when those who come to visit the area as Airbnb guests are reluctant to leave,” says Nicola. “We’ve received some staggeringly good reviews on Airbnb.”
“I particularly love the design, quality of materials and, of course, the build’s fabulous good looks. Simon jokes that he particularly loves that it adds value to our property. But I’ve caught him gazing at it more times than I care to remember. Seriously, we’re both delighted with it.”
