Friday the 18 May turned out to be a gorgeous sunny day and saw the Oakwrights team at Richard and Pam Pearse’s house in Worcestershire. It was very kind of Richard and Pam to open their house to potential self-builders who are looking for inspiration.
Richard and Pam’s home is loosely based on The Woodhouse, Oakwrights show home and was designed by John Williams Architectural Designer to create a living space that accommodates a busy life with two energetic Spaniels as part of the family. The post and beam oak frame is encapsulated completely with Oakwrights Natural Wall and Roofing system and is so well insulated that the cost of heating the house is only around £300 per year.
There is not much space for extra parking at the property for an Oakwrights Open Day, when we might have anything from 15 to 30 sets of prospective clients arriving over the course of the day. On this occasion we were lucky to have the co-operation of Richard & Pam’s local pub, The Red Lion. For a donation to the landlord’s favoured charity, Midlands Air Ambulance, we had our guests arrive at the pub car park and one of our team strolled and ferried them up and down the country lane that leads to the house.
The plot is compact, but Richard has an Oakwrights home office in the garden and a two bay garage for his cars; whilst Pam takes charge of the gorgeous country contemporary oak framed home. A stream burbles through the plot and the flowers were in full bloom creating a quintessential English setting. A perfect Spring day.
Richard and Pam, along with a host of Oakwrights experts were available for quizzing throughout the day, with the gentleman who designed the home, John Williams, giving his planning and design advice on how to make the very best of your plot. For a little more background into the early part of the project that John and the Architectural Design Team assisted with – take a look at his Planning Consent Story and keep your eye out later in the Summer for the August Issue of Build It Magazine when Richard and Pam’s story will be told in full:
