Tips when building an oak frame garden room meeting space

Expanding our existing office space to include a new oak frame garden room gave us a great space for meetings and an opportunity for clients to see first-hand what their garden room could look like.

Our oak frame garden room extends from the main building of the office at ‘The Lakes’ in Swainshill avoiding first floor windows. Construction began in January of 2015 with our site team assembling and fitting the frame on location at our offices.

Our garden room features oak rafters from the wall plate to the roof lantern ring beam; however, a popular (and more cost effective) alternative is to use softwood panelling and plasterboard for a clean white finish.

Our garden room was designed by our GreenRooms team and features a high quality green oak frame and a slightly vaulted ceiling with a sizeable roof lantern window which allows a wealth of light to flood the room. This creates the illusion of height, as well as a light and spacious atmosphere inside the room.

Measurements:

  • Overall space size: 5523 mm (5.5m) x 8375 mm (8.4m)
  • Area of the space: 46.2 m2 / 497.2 ft2
  • Span of oak beams over space (inner post to inner post): 5507mm
  • Roof Lantern span: 2384 mm

The build also features beautiful oak french doors and a kiln-dried oak frame lantern. As well as this, the garden room is protected by our unique face-glazing system, ensuring the glass units do not warp, or move as the oak settles over time.

Not just a meeting space

Although this garden room serves (for the most part) as a professional space, the oak garden rooms we design for clients have the potential to be enjoyed in a variety of ways; our clients use these timber extensions for anything from a leisurely lounge, dining room and even as a great place to grow plants.

Our garden rooms use passive solar planning that ensures the room is kept at a comfortable temperature all year round, whilst allowing you to enjoy surrounding views from the comfort of your home.

A perfect space to eat, relax, and enjoy.
