Working together to support Hereford Food Bank

Suggested food bank donations include non-perishable Christmas food

Our team here at Oakwrights are working with Taylor Lane Timber Frame to provide stocking fillers and hamper supplies for Hereford Food Bank this Christmas, and we need your help!

Hereford Food Bank is a registered charity and operates with a small group of dedicated volunteers, currently 97, and one full-time and one part-time officer. Almost all the food supplied is donated by local people; both individuals and businesses. Since January 2020, the food bank has provided three meals a day, for seven days, to more than 3.5k people.

“We can’t bear the thought of families not having enough to eat, and children going without a Christmas stocking,” says Bill Keir, our Operations and Commercial Director. “So, let’s make a special effort to share a little Christmas cheer to those in need.”

“Food banks are facing unprecedented demand, in fact, many people used a food bank for the first time in lockdown,” explains Lisa O’Neil, HR manager at Taylor Lane Timber Frame. “This is putting extraordinary pressure on these voluntary services. This is not a normal year and we must do all we can to help those who are struggling to escape from the worries of the year over the festive period. Families with children have been hardest hit during the pandemic and we hope to make a difference, even if just for one day.”

How can I help?

The Food Bank is requesting gifts for Christmas stockings and hampers, including chocolate coins and non-perishable festive foods e.g. Christmas pudding, fruit cake, preserves, assorted nuts and boxes of biscuits.

Vouchers for local independent retailers and supermarkets are also welcome, alongside cash donations which can be ring-fenced for food. These will be used by the Food Bank to purchase additional perishable items for the hampers, including joints of meat, vegetarian/vegan alternatives and vegetables. The hampers and stockings will be prepared by a group of volunteers working in a bubble.

Where can I make a drop-off?

To arrange a contactless, COVID-safe drop-off at either our offices (HR4 7PU) or Taylor Lane Timber Frame’s premises (HR2 6LD), please contact Lisa O’Neil on 07415 865 858 and lisa.oneil@taylor-lane.co.uk.

Due to the time needed to fill the stockings and build the Christmas food parcels, all donations need to be kindly left at either location by 12pm on Friday 20th November.
