Designing a kitchen space around an oak frame

Essentially when it comes to creating beautiful interiors that work seamlessly with your oak frame it’s all down to planning and early considerations…

The key to creating a striking yet functional oak frame home is all in the design. Giving as much consideration to your internal layout and furnishing requirements from an early stage can vastly improve the flow of your home. Your oak frame will contribute to the character of your house, however when incorporating particular interior features or layouts, the design of your frame may require alteration to accommodate these. This is why our Architectural Design team will ask you for your home ‘wish list’ in the early design stages.

For instance, it is vitally important that when creating the perfect setting for your oak frame kitchen, your end vision is considered from the offset. This will then help to determine the most favourable position and arrangement for your post and beam style structure. From here, your needs drive a sketch house to ensure as much of your ‘wish list’ is efficiently included to work with the frame.  For example, having an oak frame does not mean you must forego wall units, curved worktops or other features.  Instead, positioning of braces and posts are considered in line with your dream ‘wish list’ at design stage.

This oasis (above), set in a seaside village, boasts a stunning open-plan layout to the living area and a vaulted entrance hall and kitchen. Despite being open-plan, the oak frame subtly zones spaces; framing the kitchen to create an impressive yet intimate space.

Glazing is key to capturing surrounding sea views, a good amount of full-height glazing and rooflights ensure the ground floor is flooded with natural sunlight. Although many clients love the idea of full-height face glazing, it is not always practical in a kitchen as units are best placed against a wall rather than glass. Alternatively picture windows, high level windows, or even rooflights can be used to allow light in and provides outward views.
