Reflecting on 2020 and looking ahead

The only thing we can predict about the future is that it is impossible to predict the future… What a year it has been for everyone.

Continuing to work together

Following the Government’s announcement in March, alongside the rest of the country and indeed the world, our teams here at Oakwrights adjusted to a ‘new normal’ and where possible, began working from home and meeting via video software such as Zoom. In the same way, to ensure everyone’s safety and to continue operating responsibly, we have adapted and have held virtual video meetings in place of ones that would usually takes place at our offices, show home or workshops in Herefordshire. Although different, these meetings have been invaluable and integral to our day-to-day, so we can maintain the close relationships we have with you and all our clients, colleagues and suppliers.

In addition to our in-house teams who have gone above and beyond to provide the very best service we can, we are grateful to our team of craftsmen who have been working across our three large workshops. Here, the doors are always open to allow a constant flow of fresh air and we have been able to give each person plenty of space to feel comfortable and still be able to produce our oak frames and encapsulation systems. Similarly, our fantastic site crews have changed their usual way of working to ensure our clients’ oak frame homes, extensions and outbuildings are delivered to schedule on-site.

In March 2020, the Secretary of State issued a letter of thanks to those working within the construction industry and offered words of encouragement

Welcoming virtual shows and clinics

Highly anticipated dates within our diary throughout the year are the shows and exhibitions our teams attend up and down the country. We thoroughly enjoy every event we exhibit at, as we understand that for many, this is where their home building journeys and the excitement surrounding this once in a lifetime experience, begins, and we look forward to discussing oak framing plans with self-builders searching for inspiration to bring their visions to life. Due to the current situation, such events were cancelled, however, for the first time we stepped into the world of virtual shows, attending Homebuilding & Renovating’s virtual shows. Hosted online, this fantastic opportunity has and will continue to provide the next best alternative for attendees to ‘meet’ and build relationships with construction industry trades and suppliers, so they can receive the advice and support they need for their future project.

In addition to this, our teams have successfully hosted a number of virtual ‘Home Design and Planning Clinics’ this year. Hosted via Zoom, from the comfort of their homes, our clients have booked and attended a complimentary, one-to-one private appointment with our experienced teams to talk through their ideas and receive guidance for their upcoming oak frame builds.

This year we have taken part in a number of virtual events to carry on providing you with expert advice and inspiration for your future build

The launch of Church View in Herefordshire

Alongside two unique custom build sites already in development here in Herefordshire, Webbs Meadow and The Furlong, comprising a range of plots and opportunities if you are looking for an idyllic, countryside location on which to build, we are proud to have launched a third site: Church View. Located in the beautiful village of Swainshill in rural Herefordshire, there are many possibilities at Church View for you to explore if you are looking for the perfect plot of land for your dream oak frame home. Here is a link to further information about all the sites we currently have listed.

Expanding our teams

Our teams have pulled together as a family to continue providing you and all our clients with the best possible service, experience and expertise we can offer. We always strive to invest in our people, and alongside a number of fantastic new employees who have joined us this year, we are pleased to have started hiring for our Academy, which has brought in some great new team members who are currently working their way through our internal departments.

So, 2020 is a year not to be forgotten in a hurry and we are very much looking forward to the future. Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and New Year,

Tim Crump
