Winners at the Build it Awards 2021

An early Christmas present arrived here at Oakwrights HQ on Friday 26th November, when our clients’ home was announced the winner of Best Eco Home at this year’s Build It Awards!

Our congratulations go out to Andrew and Linda Burnett, whose amazing vision it was to build ‘Woodlands’: an eco-friendly, dream oak frame home and Bed and Breakfast which was designed and constructed to rigorous Passivhaus standards. We’d also like to thank the entire team here at Oakwrights who played a part in making this home come to life.

This house, which is our second certified oak frame Passivhaus in the UK, took only 11 months to build. The combined attention to detail of our in-house teams, partner builder Furber Young Developments and Andrew and Linda, ensured their self-build journey was a great success.

To meet Passivhaus standards, Andrew and Linda worked with oak frame and encapsulation teams to design a home that was aesthetically pleasing while using our WrightWall and WrightRoof Natural encapsulation system to provide high levels of airtightness and energy efficiency. Our WrightWall Natural system was also the proud winner of Build It’s 2019 Sustainable Technology Award.

A word from our Founder, Tim Crump

“This Best Eco Home 2021 Award is another stamp of approval for our WrightWall and WrightRoof Natural encapsulation system and confirms our dedication to providing self-builders with sustainable building systems.”

The Build It Awards

The Build It Awards, in association with Buildstore, are an annual celebration that recognises innovation and excellence in the custom and self-build home sector.

The Best Eco Home category is for self-built homes that have been designed and constructed to be as efficient and sustainable as possible. Judges looked at the overall design, efficiency, innovation, and how the homeowners’ needs have been addressed, with a specific focus on energy performance.
