An oak frame cottage extension in Scotland

Words from our clients, Alex and Hazel Fergusson

1.What prompted your decision to extend?

At the time we were selling our farm and looking to downsize. We wanted to move into a cottage we already owned and had previously used as a holiday let. However, we needed more space as the cottage was only a one bed property with a small, single bedroom, a lounge, and a small kitchen and dining area.

2. Why did you choose to build your extension with Oakwrights?

We met Oakwrights at the Glasgow Homebuilding & Renovating Show where we were looking for inspiration and ideas. Iain Hendry and the team certainly managed to inspire us and gave us plenty of ideas to develop our own extension. Having spoken with other oak frame suppliers, in our eyes, no one could equal the design flare and offer us the full build which we needed.

3. What key features did your bespoke oak frame design have to include?

Our vision was to create an oak framed extension that would enhance the overall character of our traditional cottage, however, we wanted to be a bit different and add our own flair to the design. It was important to us that our new extension offered the space we needed and alongside other features, we managed to achieve this through the design of the high ceilings and amazing glazing.

4. What do you predominately use your extension for?

Our cottage extension has allowed us to add a lovely sized oak frame kitchen and chill out area to our cottage, alongside a large master bedroom and shower room with an additional entrance and hallway. We love how natural light pours in and we can make the most of the fabulous views out into our garden.
